The Colibri is much smaller and lighter than the EAZE MAGNUM, which has been ePuffer’s flagship product and the company thinks this will appeal to customers.

Mr Neely added: “The Colibri also has a slim and elegant-looking charging pack. A user must charge the pack and then it will keep the batteries constantly charged. The pack can hold two batteries and five atomized cartridges. It is slim so will fit in a pocket or purse.”

The team at ePuffer is also aiming to strike deals with major distributors in 2011 so it can launch its products on to the retail market, especially as the packaging now carries proper labelling and warnings. The company’s ultimate objective is to place the E-cigarettes in convenience shops, bars and department stores.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration lacks the authority to regulate electronic cigarettes as drugs or devices, an appeals court ruled, upholding a lower-court decision. The U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington said today the FDA can only regulate e-cigarettes as a tobacco product. The ruling means the government can oversee the marketing of the products, not restrict their sale.

The e-cigarette consists of a battery, a heating element and a cartridge that contains a liquid suspension with nicotine. When a user inhales from the cartridge, the liquid is heated and a vapor is emitted. The nicotine is obtained from tobacco plants.
